Biffle back in first going into Bristol
Driver aims for second win in a row
16 GREG BIFFLE, Ford
Team: Roush Fenway Racing
WHERE HE STANDS: Biffle, who led the points for 11 straight weeks earlier in the season, finally returned to the top spot in the Sprint Cup standings following Sunday's win at Michigan. He leads second-ranked Matt Kenseth, his Roush Fenway Racing teammate, by 20 points and third-ranked Dale Earnhardt Jr. by 22 points.
BRISTOL RECORD: 19 career starts, 0 wins, 6 top-5s, 11 top-10s, 1 pole. Finished 31st in this race last year, his second-worst career performance at Bristol. But he rebounded this spring to not only earn his first career pole at the half-mile bullring, but also finished 13th.
LOOKING AHEAD: Biffle finds himself in familiar territory this week: back in first place. He was in first both before and after the spring race at Bristol. More important, Biffle is one of the best momentum drivers in Sprint Cup. After his win at Michigan, look for a strong run from him at Bristol. Here are his thoughts on Saturday's IRWIN Tools Night Race: "Bristol is always a race everyone looks forward to. The night race is exciting, lots of sparks, under the lights, the stands are packed and it's kind of just the ambiance of the race and everything is pretty cool. Who knows what to expect there with the repave or modification to the track surface. Will there be a second groove? How hard is it going to be to pass? What's the track going to be like? I don't think anyone knows until we get there."
LOOKING BACK: Biffle held off Brad Keselowski in the closing laps to win Sunday's race at Michigan International Speedway (Biffle's third career win at MIS). The final outcome may have been closer had Jimmie Johnson's car not blown up while in the lead and with just six laps remaining. Still, Biffle boldly proclaimed he will be a driver to contend with during the Chase and might potentially win the championship. If he does, he'll become the first driver in NASCAR history to win championships in Sprint Cup, Nationwide (formerly Busch) Series and the Camping World (formerly Craftsman) Truck Series.
ETC.: Biffle has completed 98.1 percent (9,330) of the 9,513 laps contested over his 19 starts at Bristol. He has an average start of 13.4 and average finish of 11.8. He also has 1 DNF.
