Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil was arrested Saturday night in Miami and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, according to court records in Miami-Dade County, multiple media outlets reported.

Dumervil was reportedly held on $7,500 bail and he was not listed as an inmate at Dade County jail on Sunday morning, according to the Denver Post.

The events that led to the arrest are not yet known, but, according to NFL.com, he could face up to five years in prison if convicted, according to Florida law.

Broncos officials have been in contact with police officials in Miami, and the Broncos released a statement that read, "Our organization is aware of the matter and is continuing to gather facts. This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course."

Broncos players are scheduled to report to training camp on July 25.

Dumervil, 28, is a two-time Pro Bowl player who had 9.5 sacks in 14 games last year despite injuries.
