Liberty 45, Monmouth 15: Darrin Peterson caught three passes for 124 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Flames pulled away from the visiting Hawks in the non-conference contest.Flames quarterback Josh Woodrum was 13-of-19 for 237 yards and two scores while throwing one interception. Kevin Fogg added two interceptions and took one back for a touchdown for Liberty (1-1), which started the scoring with a safety on the way to its 10th victory in its last 11 home openers.Monmouth's starting quarterback Brandon Hill passed for 97 yards and a score but was intercepted three times. Liberty was without 1,000-yard rusher Aldreakis Allen, who was serving the second of a two-game team suspension, and outgained the Hawks 122-87 on the ground.Hill connected with Michael McLafferty for a 27-yard score to bring Monmouth within 9-6 and the Hawks intercepted Woodrum on the next series. Liberty held and Woodrum came back to hit Peterson for a 28-yard touchdown with 10:12 left in the first half to start the onslaught for the Flames.Fogg picked off Hill and ran 29 yards for a score a little less than three minutes later for Liberty, which will welcome Monmouth as an associate member of the Big South Conference next season. Woodrum then connected with Peterson on an 85-yard touchdown with 3:24 left in the second and the Flames led 31-6 at halftime.
