Recap: Yale 38, Cornell 23
Yale 38, Cornell 23: Deon Randall reeled in three touchdown receptions and rushed for another as the host Bulldogs battered the Big Red in the Ivy League opener for both teams.
Randall had 11 catches for 148 yards and scored the final touchdown for Yale (2-0, 1-0), with a 10-yard scamper early in the fourth quarter. Henry Furman, who completed 29-of-36 passes for 353 yards, also rushed for a 3-yard score in the first quarter for the Bulldogs.
Furman and Randall began their scoring assault early in the third quarter and snapped a 10-10 tie with an 8-yard touchdown. Randall doubled the advantage by receiving a short pass and turning it into a 23-yard score, and he capped his three-touchdown receiving performance with a 44-yard scoring strike just 40 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Western Ontario transfer Tyler Varga followed up last week's mammoth 236-yard performance versus Colgate with a 105-yard effort against Cornell (1-1, 0-1).
Jeff Mathews completed 25-of-43 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns, but his two interceptions proved to be his undoing. Mathews had similar numbers (340 yards, four touchdowns) in a 45-6 rout of Yale last season.
