Big leaguers work out at ESPN Wide World of Sports

Ping job shadows CarGo

ORLANDO, Fla. – There are a number of MLB players who call Central Florida home in the offseason.

Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon and Colorado Rockies slugger Carlos "CarGo" Gonzalez are among the players who are working out at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex leading up to spring training.

News 6 sports director David Pingalore had the chance to catch up with the big leaguers who were working out with coach Tom Shaw and Hall of Famer Barry Larkin.

Ping was asked to shag fly balls as Gonzalez, the 2010 NL batting champ was taking batting practice.

"We always try to stay in shape, especially during the offseason, which is really easy to lose your mentality. It's perfect here. I feel like we have everything we need," Gonzalez said. "There's a lot of athletes that live around the area. We try to make each other better every day."
