'First Lady of NASCAR,' Betty Jane France, dies

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Betty Jane France, commonly known as "The First Lady of NASCAR," has died.

Relatives posted to Twitter about her passing Monday night.

France was the executive vice president of NASCAR and the NASCAR Foundation. 

She also had ties to Daytona Beach. NASCAR co-founder "Big Bill" France, Betty Jane's father-in-law, helped open the Daytona International Speedway back in 1959. 

France continued to be active in the community, including working with Halifax Medical Center to improve health care for kids.
