Orlando, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies, announced today that the Iowa Wild have assigned goaltender John Curry to the Orlando Solar Bears.
Curry (5-11, 185 lbs.) played 32 games for the Solar Bears last season, collecting a 17-11-2 record with a 2.80 GAA and .910 save percentage. He played one game in the John Curry AHL (American Hockey League), for the Houston Aeros, stopping 31 of 32 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Charlotte Checkers. Curry surrendered two or fewer goals 13 times for the Solar Bears last year, going 11-1-1 in those contests. Curry helped the Solar Bears collect a memorable 4-3 shootout victory over the Florida Everblades in Orlando's Home Opener last season, including stopping 11 of the 12 shots he faced in the shootout.

The Shorewood, MN, native has played in four NHL games for the Pittsburgh Penguins during his career, collecting a 2-1-0 record, 2.40 GAA, and .913 save percentage in three games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2008-09. His AHL career includes 178 games played, all but one with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, with a 2.48 GAA, .908 save percentage, and 103-59-7 record. He appeared in the AHL All-Star Game in 2010-11 and won the "Harry Holmes Trophy" for the best goaltending duo in the AHL that season while posting a 2.44 GAA and .905 save percentage with a 23-13-0 record.
A "Hobey Baker Award" finalist for the top NCAA Hockey Player in 2006-07, Curry spent four seasons (2003-07) with Boston University (NCAA) before turning pro. In 2006-07, he was named a First-Team All-American, was the Hockey East Player of the Year, won the New England Region MVP, and had a record of 17-10-8 with a 2.01 GAA and .928 save percentage. Curry finished his college career with a record of 59-29-15 and 2.08 GAA and .923 save percentage.
Curry will wear #35 for the Solar Bears.
