Bringing the Magic: NBA team gives back to community

Magic player Serge Ibaka hands out turkeys

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Magic are giving back to the community this holiday season, filling up bags with everything a family would need for a Thanksgiving feast.

"I love it because it lets us know that they care about us as a community and we appreciate it," Carolyn Chambers said.

Added Arther Chambers, "You're giving things to people that need stuff and it's good."

Organizers said at least 450 people will walk through, picking up the essentials: stuffing, rice, gravy and, of course, their very own turkey.

"I wasn't expecting to get a turkey," Tanya Gains said. "I wasn't expecting to get a whole meal, so I'm very pleased. I'm very happy."

Gains said this cause allows her to eat a Thanksgiving meal that she otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.

"I'm on a fixed income and I'm also on Social Security, so I don't get much," Gains said. "And I don't get much in food stamps either, so this will go a long way."

Added Bo Outlaw, a community ambassador for the Orlando Magic, "We're making someone's Thanksgiving. It's all about giving and seeing the enjoyment in their faces and (their) excitement."

The event is sponsored by the Amway Center and by Magic player Serge Ibaka, who handed out turkeys himself.

"I come from a big family," Ibaka said. "I come from a culture where I lived with a lot of people, neighbors and  family. So I know it's important to give back."
