Kreis hired weeks after Lions head coach Adrian Heath fired

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City Soccer Club announced on Tuesday it has hired Jason Kreis as the Lions' new head coach.

Kreis is the Major League Soccer's sixth all-time leading scorer with 108 goals in 12 years of playing with the Dallas Burn and Real Salt Lake, the Lions said in a post on the team's website. As a coach, Kreis led Real Salt Lake to an MLS Cup championship in 2009 and won the Western Conference in 2013.

“We are very excited that we have got our man. Jason is a progressive thinking and highly ambitious coach, who is very familiar with success in MLS,” Orlando City SC President and Founder Phil Rawlins said in a release posted on the team's website. “Jason’s playing philosophy is the same attack-minded, possession-oriented style of soccer that we have built our Club around. He is a winner who checks all the boxes for us.”

Kreis brings assistant coaches Miles Joseph and CJ Brown with him. They will all start coaching on Monday alongside the team's current coaching staff, the Lions said.

Kreis will be welcomed in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon. His hiring comes weeks after head coach Adrian Heath was fired.
