SEC teams scramble to salvage, upgrade bowl hopes
Gators need two wins to qualify
The Southeastern Conference is gearing up for a mad scramble toward bowl season.
Eight SEC teams are bowl-eligible and four more can still reach six wins.
The teams hoping to make it include Vanderbilt and Florida. The Commodores had been to four bowl games in 120 years before James Franklin's arrival, and now have a chance to make it three straight. They need just one win against Kentucky, Tennessee or Wake Forest.
The Gators must win two of their last three against No. 11 South Carolina, Georgia Southern and No. 2 Florida State. They've made a bowl every year since 1990, when they were under NCAA sanctions.
Tennessee is 4-6 and Mississippi State 4-5.
The teams who already have six wins are aiming for more prestigious bowls with bigger payouts.
