X-Ray Pegs Pit Bull For Missing $5,000 Ring

Pit bulls get a bad rap, but here's a new twist: A Detroit-area family said theirs is responsible for a missing diamond ring.

Tina Burlett, of Rainsville Township, Mich., noticed not long ago that her custom-made, $5,000 wedding ring was missing.

She first thought someone had broken into her home and stolen the ring, and she called police to file a report.

It wasn't until Burlett's grandmother, Betty, mentioned she watched a special on pets eating odd items that Missy, the family's pit bull, became a suspect.

Burlett took Missy to the veterinarian, and an X-ray clearly showed a diamond ring nestled comfortably in her belly.

The veterinarian, who said he was not surprised by the situation after treating a dog who ate a watch, gave Missy some peroxide.

Not long after that, the diamond ring came out of the ruff and was placed back on Burlett's finger, after some thorough cleaning, of course.

Now that Burlett has her ring back, she said, "Missy is a girl and has good taste."
