Man Protests 'Deadly' Germ-Spreading Handshakes

UPDATED: 2:32 pm EST December 10, 2007

A man in Smith County, Texas, is publicly protesting handshakes, arguing that they spread potentially deadly diseases like the flu and should be immediately stopped.

Wolf Ray was videotaped standing outside of the Smith County Courthouse with a large sign demanding people stop shaking hands.

Ray said he is approaching as many people as possible to spread his anti-handshake message.

"We make ourselves sick, even bring on death from shaking hands," Ray said.

Dr. Ed Dominguez said Wolf's theory is logical but he doesn't think it's practical.

"I can't see doing that in a church, for example, but if that's the way that you're going to contact people, and everyone's into it, that's fine. I think that's reasonable," Dominguez said.

The best bet against diseases, Dominguez said, is to wash your hands regularly.

Ray said he hopes to reach as many people as possible this month.
