Local 6 News Partners With Florida Today
Agreement Includes Sharing Breaking News Stories
Local 6 News has formed a partnership with the
Florida Today newspaper located in Brevard County, Fla., to strengthen coverage of Central Florida news.
The agreement includes sharing information on breaking stories, trading information on Web site stories and developing joint public service projects.
"I think it's a partnership with a great newspaper and I think it's a paper that not only serves its own audience well, but I think it's going to serve our entire viewership just as well and make us all very much stronger," Local 6 General Manager Henry Maldonado said.
Local 6 News is also setting up a news bureau in the
Florida Today newsroom. The station plans to use newpaper reporters' stories on air.
News Director Skip Valet said the partnership gives the station access to the "collective skills, which are formidable," of
Florida Today staff members, and improve their coverage of the area by "turning over every rock and looking into every cranny," according to a Florida Today column.
"It's an excellent partnership that brings together the best of both journalistic worlds and the beneficiaries are clearly going to be the viewers of local six and the readers of
Florida Today, according to
Florida Today Publisher Mike Coleman.
