Henry Maldonado

Vice President, General Manager of WKMG

Henry Maldonado, a 20-year veteran of Post-Newsweek Stations, has been named vice president and general manager of WKMG in Orlando.

Alan Frank, president of PNS, said: "Henry is a unique person: very bright, extremely good at new ideas, marketing, post-production editing, and great at dreaming things up and fixing what's broken. He's delightful to work with, collaborative, and he's good at building teams. Henry has a very varied background, and together with his intellect and curiosity, he's just what WKMG needed."

"Local and community programming is not only good image but also very good business," said Maldonado. "A good local broadcaster always looks within his community for ideas, then uses his expertise to package and market them effectively. The reward will be good viewership and profits.

"Television is the most democratic of businesses," Maldonado added. "Every morning I get to work and face my constituents. Ratings are the voice of the people."

Maldonado's most recent assignment was vice president of audience and sales promotion for all six Post-Newsweek Stations.

Prior to that, Maldonado served as vice president of programming and promotion for WDIV in Detroit. He launched a variety of programming and marketing efforts designed to solidify the station's connection with its viewers. MeTV brought automated video booths to Detroit. The city's tercentennial became a yearlong station effort that culminated in a four-hour live celebration. His marketing and branding of the station website as ClickOnDetroit helped catapult it into one of the market's top cyber destinations. He embraced major local events such as the Detroit Auto Show and the annual fireworks display. Maldonado also spearheaded the launch of the Target 4 Action campaign, which addresses problems in the community.

Prior to joining PNS, Maldonado was executive producer for special projects at WCBS in New York, where his "First Amendment Project" earned numerous awards. During a stint at WGBH, the PBS station in Boston, he created and produced one of the first sitcoms geared to teenagers, "The New Voice." Maldonado has also been executive producer at WNBC in New York, and began his career at WBZ in Boston as a producer/ director.

Maldonado attended Boston University, where he earned a B.S. degree. He did graduate work at Emerson College, where he was a teaching assistant in mass communications.

Maldonado is originally from Caracas, Venezuela. He and his wife Joanna have three children and live in Longwood, Florida.
