Mike DeForest
POSTED: Monday, February 12, 2001
ORLANDO -- Little did his family know that his childhood passion for playing with his dad's video camera would lead to a career in broadcasting.
Chicago native Mike DeForest has been a reporter for WKMG News since December 2000. He moved to Central Florida from Chattanooga, Tenn. where he worked as a reporter.
He began his career in Austin, Minn., better known as "The Birthplace of Spam." Mike cut his teeth (pardon the pun) covering Austin's annual "Spam Jam." He now refuses to eat canned lunch meat.
Mike is an alumnus of the University of Southern California where he studied broadcast journalism and political science. Between classes, Mike assisted CBS with its coverage of the O.J. Simpson civil trial. He actually sat in on courtroom testimony.
When he's not busy covering the news for WKMG, Mike enjoys running, Scuba diving and spending time with his wife April and their bassett hound, Lizzie.
If you catch him on a nostalgic day, he'll tell you about his days as a Jungle Cruise skipper at Disneyland in California!
