The following is text from station general manager Henry Maldonado's editorial: So we’re all caught up in another shuttle launch. All of us were ready for the big rocket in the sky and all the fun and excitement associated with it.
Many were very disappointed when the launch was scrubbed, and so it’s time to grow up and get some perspective here and this is something NASA knows too well and we need to remember it too. Space shuttle launches are not entertainment. Let’s not forget how dangerous they are, and the tremendous risks our astronauts take to go into space.
We cannot let ourselves be seduced into thinking that these launches are routine. So be grateful and impressed when NASA with all that public pressure all that money all those eyes on it last week chose to scrub the mission.
We expect nothing less and we salute them. This is courageous monumental and a very dangerous event and we wish for NASA to be as sure as is possible that our astronauts and the space program ride on a safety first philosophy. We know they do, let’s remember that too.
