Mike Holfeld

Local 6’s Emmy Award winning Investigative Reporter Mike Holfeld has made Central Florida history with major investigations that have led to new policies, legislative proposals and even -- state and national laws.

If you have an issue or story idea call Mike's office at (407) 521-1322.

For example, one investigation resulted in new legislation to protect Florida consumers from unscrupulous moving companies.

Holfeld exposed an Israeli Mob connection from New York to Florida. His reports were presented to state lawmakers and not only led to new Florida legislation but recognition by the U.S transportation committee on Capitol Hill. His work also prompted a two part series on CBS "Eye on America".

Holfeld has teamed up with Congressman John Mica, Congressman Ric Keller, State Representative Randy Johnson, State Representative Sheri McInvale and Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart to examine issues and develop laws that help families in Florida and across the country.

Holfeld’s latest investigation into case ready beef packed in carbon monoxide has prompted Orange County commissioners to call for new labeling for all of those products. The story has also caught the eye of the state agriculture department.

Mike's investigations have led to new proposals in the auto insurance industry and video retail sales industry as well.

During the post economic downturn of 9-11, Holfeld's stories convinced Gov. Jeb Bush to allow tax extensions for hotel-motel owners.

His reports on parents losing a pregnancy to miscarriage led to the passage of the Grieving Parents Law. Now, Florida parents have the right to hold a memorial service no matter when the miscarriage occurs.

His work has earned a long list of honors. Since December 2003 he has earned 6 Emmy nominations, winning two along with an AP award, two green eyeshade awards, the Society of Professional Journalists Award of Excellence and The Sunshine State Award.

Holfeld joined the Local 6 Problem Solvers in 1999 and previously worked 15 years as a reporter/ anchor in Detroit.
