Tom Sorrells

Emmy award-winning Tom Sorrells is known as the most trusted meteorologist in Central Florida. He helps people plan their day, stay safe from dangerous weather conditions and stay prepared for whatever weather comes their way.

During the Florida hurricanes of 2004, Tom started a segment on the air called, "Talk Back to Tom." People from all over Central Florida phoned Tom and asked him questions about the movement of the storms and how to stay safe. When the skies were threatening and the lights went dark, so many of our neighbors found Tom to be a calm and reassuring voice.

The following year, Local 6 won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for journalistic excellence in its coverage of Hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne. Tom Sorrells had a major role in helping Local 6 provide excellent hurricane coverage before, during and after the storms.

In 2002, Tom received an Emmy Award for meteorology talent. The award speaks volumes about the way Tom presents the weather and communicates the forecast in a way people understand and appreciate.

The Associated Press also recognized Tom's talents and honored him with the Best Weather Operation Award while working in Ohio in 1995.

The accurate, dependable Tom Sorrells has earned the National Weather Association Seal of Approval and the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval.

Tom graduated from Western Kentucky University, and received additional studies at Ohio State University. He has worked in markets across the United States, including Detroit, Columbus and Myrtle Beach.

Besides his dedication to weather forecasting, Tom is also a dedicated husband and father. He enjoys spending time with his family in beautiful Central Florida. He also takes time out of his busy life to fish and ride his motorcycle.
