Marla Weech has come full circle at Local 6.
After many years as an anchor on Central Florida television, Marla is thrilled to be back anchoring Local 6 News at noon, 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., working alongside many friends she has known for years.
She's a native Floridian, but after receiving her degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, her television career path took her from Jacksonville to Fort Myers, then to Little Rock, Ark. and finally back to Orlando, at what was then WDBO/WCPX TV 6.
Back then she anchored weekends solo at TV 6, and then anchored at another local station before returning to the Channel 6 airwaves in April 2006.
Now Marla is a friendly and familiar face in the afternoons as co-anchor of Local 6 News: First at 4:00 and co-anchor of Local 6 News at 5:30.
Marla was a music major in college (flute and bassoon) before her interest in communications meant a change in schools and in her course of study. She still loves music and sings regularly at her church.
Since graduating from the University of Central Florida, she has proven herself as a producer, host of prime time programming, news reporter, writer, and on rare occasions -- videotape editor.
Marla has been inducted into the UCF Nicholson School of Communications Hall of fame, which recognizes successful UCF graduates and their participation within the academic community.
Her reputation for creating interesting material was put to the test at one point by local government officials.
Her public service assignment: to make an otherwise dull subject come alive -- jury duty. Officials were so pleased with the finished product, her jury service instructional video was chosen to be presented to the Florida Supreme Court in Tallahassee.
Marla has received a number of awards in local, state and regional competitions.
They include several first place awards from the Associated Press, United Press International, as well as recognition by the Mid Florida Society of Professional Journalists, and the Florida Bar Association and many charitable organizations.
Her interests include just about anything connected to the outdoors, including scuba diving and other water sports, camping, and running. She also loves growing plants, arranging flowers and sewing crafts.
Marla believes Central Florida is the absolute best place on earth -- to watch TV. (Oh, and she also thinks it's the absolute best place on earth to live.)
