Baby gorilla born at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Birth marks seventh gorrila at Busch Gardens

TAMPA, Fla. – A male western lowland gorilla was born Aug. 18 in the Myombe Reserve habitat at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

The gorilla's name is Oliver and his mother is a 28-year-old gorilla named Mary, who came to Bush Gardens in February 2010 from Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas.

Western lowland gorillas are endangered and come from tropical forests in West Africa, which are disease-induced and poaching habitats.

Busch Gardens participates in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, whose goal is to help endangered species by providing them with a save and diverse habitat.
