The announcement was made Thursday morning in front of Rising Star Karaoke Club.

The theme park said the eight new venues will include a mix of established national brands, up-and-coming concepts, and Universal's own concepts.

"We want Universal CityWalk to grow along with the rest of our destination," said Ric Florell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Resort Revenue Operations at Universal Orlando.  "We are bringing our guests an amazing new collection of experiences that will be world-class and offer something for everyone."

Among the new venues include Hot Dog Hall of Fame, CowFish- a burger and sushi restaurant combined, Cold Stone Creamery, Menchie's, Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food, Bread Box-a modern Italian kitchen concept and Red Oven Pizza Bakery. The new venues will open at various times throughout 2014.

In addition to the CityWalk makeover, theme park officials are expected to give an update on the opening of Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley.

As the destination's soon to be largest hotel, Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort is set to open half of its 1,800 rooms in spring 2014.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley, which began construction last year, is expected to debut in summer 2014.
