The 17-year-old son of Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty was cited in a three-vehicle crash that left a 9-year-old girl with serious injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Tyler Crotty was cited with careless driving after the crash, which happened at about 4 p.m. Wednesday on Daetwyler and Judge Road in Orange County.

Troopers said Tyler Crotty lost control of his car, sideswiped a Lynx bus and crashed into a van that was carrying the girl and her mother, 38-year-old Kristie Horton.

Two of Tyler Crotty's cousins, ages 18 and 22, were in the car at the time of the crash and were treated for minor injuries, troopers said.

Twelve unopened beer bottles were found in Tyler Crotty's car, but it is not believed that alcohol was a factor in the crash, troopers said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Tyler Crotty made national headlines in 2004 when he was invited on the "Late Show with David Letterman" after he was caught on video fidgeting and yawning while standing behind President George W. Bush during a speech in Central Florida.
