Construction workers on I-95 project involved in crash, FDOT says

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Officials are investigating a fatal crash that involved two construction workers Monday evening at Interstate 95 near mile marker 261.

The Florida Highway Patrol said  56-year-old Alfred Weaver, of Titusville, was driving in a box truck south on I-95 in the outside lane. A Ford pickup truck driven by I-95 widening/interchange road construction workers was stopped facing east on I-95 on the right paved shoulder.

Troopers said for an unknown reason, Weaver traveled onto the paved shoulder and struck the left side of the Ford.

The driver of the pickup truck, 57-year-old Clay Suber, was killed. Weaver was also killed.

FHP said Patrick Tucker, a 19-year-old passenger in the pickup truck, suffered serious injuries. He was flown to Halifax Medical Center.

FHP continues investigating the crash.

A safety review has been launched by the contractor.
