Florida Highway Patrol investigators are looking into reports that street racing may have been involved in a crash early Tuesday morning that left one person dead near the main gate of Patrick Air Force Base.

The crash took place at about 4:25 a.m. at the intersection of state Road A1A and Jupiter Street in Brevard County, troopers said.

“It may have allegedly involved street racing. The initial report was that six people were in one vehicle,” said Kim Miller, spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol. “We had one confirmed fatality.”

Two vehicles -- a 2001 Dodge pickup and a 2004 Chevrolet -- were towed from the scene. One of the vehicles is believed to have crashed into a wall, troopers said.

“We transported four patients from the scene, including one person that was in critical condition,” Orlando Dominguez, spokesman for Brevard County Fire-Rescue, told Florida Today.

Two of the injured were taken by ambulance to Cape Canaveral Hospital. Another person was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center, while the fourth person was taken to the Melbourne hospital by ambulance.

Meanwhile, two other fatal crashes occurred in Orange County on Tuesday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Johnathan R. Caballero, 23, of Orlando, was killed in a crash at about 3:50 a.m. on South Apopka Vineland Road near Darlene Drive in Orlando.

Troopers said Caballero was driving a 2003 Ford Mustang at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck a utility pole.

According to traffic.com, another fatal accident occurred on Gerda Terrace at West Princeton Street in Orlando when a vehicle crashed into a tree.
