MAITLAND, Fla.- – Another lane shift is coming to the Maitland interchange as part of the Big Drive project.
Crews are preparing to shift westbound traffic toward the inside, according to David Parks, the project's public information officer.
A few weeks ago, the eastbound lane shift was the reason for a lot of construction. Now, the other side of the road will be undergoing the same kind of work.
The temporary change to which drivers must become accustomed marks another step toward the permanent configuration coming to the busy interchange.
"It will open up space for crews to come in and start working on the permanent elevated westbound lanes west of I-4," Parks said.
All the lane and ramp shifting that makes Maitland Boulevard a construction hot spot also means that it is a priority project for the Big Drive.
"It's one of the elements that we're trying to get done a little bit earlier. The current schedule projects that all the work will be done here in Maitland by 2018," said Parks.
Parks said this part of the Big Drive will be completed three years before the rest of the I-4 Ultimate Project is scheduled to be wrapped up.
