ORLANDO, Fla. – I-4 travelers can soon expect yet another change that could impact their commute, all because of the big drive.

The latest change impacting drivers on I-4 will go into effect early next week.

“It will be Tuesday morning at 6 a.m., so starting about 10 p.m. Monday evening we’ll close down the ramp altogether,” said David Parks, public information officer, I-4 Ultimate. “Drivers will need to continue down to Sand Lake Road; they can then get to Kirkman Road.”

If you’re traveling on I-4 westbound, there will be a temporary relocation of the northbound Kirkman Road exit. The shift will go into effect as crews work overnight Monday to have the new exit opened for drivers on Tuesday morning, weather permitting.

The new westbound ramp will have drivers exiting about 500 feet sooner than the current northbound Kirkman Road exit.

“So they need to make sure that they’re watching out for the signs and the pavement markings, and they need to make their decision a little bit earlier than what they’re used to,” Parks said.

This shift will be temporary, but the new ramp will be within the footprint of the permanent future I-4 design.

“The ramp that people will be driving on come Tuesday morning is in the footprint of the final location of the ramp,” Parks said. “So you’ll get an idea of where you’ll be driving once the project is all said and done.”

Remember, with any lane or exit shift, you want to just pay that much more attention so we can all get to our destination safely and on time.
