DELTONA, Fla. - A vehicle believed to be involved in a hit-and-run crash in Deltona that left a 4-year-old boy with two broken legs was found ablaze, according to deputies.
The car was found on fire Thursday morning in the parking lot of the Deltona Community Center on Lakeshore Drive.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said it was not releasing any other information about the vehicle at this time.
Deputies continue to search for the driver who crashed into a bus stop bench during a road-rage incident on Wednesday and injured Luis Ortiz.
Luis, his father, and two siblings were at the bus stop bench when an out-of-control car barreled off the road and slammed into them. The father said he barely had time to react.
The crash knocked Ortiz through the air and into the bushes.
Deputies said the incident began with road rage when the car made a U-turn in front of a truck. The truck chased the car, the car's driver started throwing things at the truck before the driver lost control and crashed.
The man behind the wheel pulled into a church parking lot before he disappeared.
The speed limit where the crash occurred is 35 mph.
Deputies need help catching the driver of the hit-and-run. They believe he was in a gold-colored, four-door, Chrysler Sebring, with a round body style. However, after investigating pieces left behind, deputies also said the car could be Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler Concord or Chrysler 300M.
Deputies said the vehicle also had significant front-end damage.
They also want to talk to the truck's driver in that apparent road-rage incident. They believe it's a green pickup with a green truck topper, several veterans' stickers, and a memorial sticker for "Cody Kufner 1988-2008."
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
