SANFORD, Fla. - Troopers in Seminole County are trying to identify the driver of a car that crashed into a power pole, knocking out power to hundreds of homes, the Seminole County Jail and the sheriff's office.
The crash happened around 2:40 a.m. Monday near Ronald Regan Boulevard near State Road 417 in Sanford.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver lost control of the car for an unknown reason and struck guide-wire for a power pole.
"It was kind of like a crackle, then a boom. It definitely startled me and woke up everybody in the house," said Chris Vandervoot, whose house lost power because of the crash.
The owner of the vehicle was located, but it's not yet known who was driving at the time of the crash, troopers said.
Florida Power and Light said about 800 customers, along with the Seminole County Jail, sheriff's office and courthouse, lost power. A generator was used to restore power at the facilities, and FP&L later restored power back to homes.
