Two people are killed in a crash on I-4 in Orange County.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Two males were killed early Thursday when a car drove off Interstate 4 in Orange County and struck several trees, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The double fatal crash caused a major backup on Interstate 4 west near the Beachline.

According to witnesses, a 2003 four-door Infiniti was traveling at a high rate of speed on I-4 west when the driver lost control and the car went off the interstate, the FHP said. 

Troopers said the car hit several trees, and the driver and his passenger died at the scene. Their names and ages have not been released.

It's not known if alcohol played a role in the crash, the FHP said.

One westbound lane of I-4 was blocked, backing up traffic for miles.
