1 dead in two-motorcycle crash on State Road 50, FHP says

Crash near Cupid Avenue blocked lanes in eastbound direction

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – One person is dead after a two-motorcycle crash Saturday on State Road 50, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

It happened around 5:15 p.m. on S.R. 50, or East Colonial Drive, at Cupid Avenue in Orange County.

Troopers said two motorcycles were traveling east on S.R. 50, one traveling in front of the other.

The motorcycle traveling in front slowed to prepare to make a right turn. Troopers said for an unknown reason, the other motorcyclist failed to slow in time to avoid the first motorcycle and attempted to take evasive action avoid it.

The right side of the second motorcycle struck the left side of the motorcycle that was traveling in front, troopers said. After the initial collision, both motorcycles crashed.

The operator and passenger of the motorcycle traveling in front suffered minor injuries. A passenger on the other motorcycle was pronounced dead and its operator suffered serious injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol's report.

The crash, which remains under investigation, had all lanes blocked in the eastbound direction, authorities said. Motorists were advised to seek an alternative route. The roadway reopened Saturday evening.
