Crash shuts down I-4 east at exit 129

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a motorcycle crash in Daytona Beach that left one person dead Saturday morning, troopers said.

Troopers said two motorcycles crashed into each other on I-4 near exit 129.

The first motorcycle was traveling east on I-4, directly behind the second motorcycle in the middle lane of I-4 east, just west of I-95, troopers said. The driver of the second motorcycle, Glen Sturgeon Jr., 71, of Acushnet, Massachusetts, came to a stop for stopped traffic ahead. The driver of the first motorcycle, Bruce Jussila, 75, of Kissimmee, failed to slow down and hit the back of Acushnet's motorcycle, the Highway Patrol said.

Both men had one female passenger on their motorcycles. All four riders were ejected during the crash and taken to Halifax Health Medical Center for their injuries, troopers said.

Sturgeon was pronounced dead at the hospital, troopers said. The female passenger on his motorcycle suffered minor injuries.

Jussila suffered minor injuries, and the female passenger on his motorcycle suffered serious injuries, troopers said.

Eastbound lanes were shut down at exit 129 following the crash, but have since reopened.
