Cops: Van sought after driver 'intentionally' hits pedestrian

Victim, 32, expected to survive

COCOA, Fla. – Police are looking for a white minivan with passenger-side damage, after the driver of the vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run with a pedestrian, officers with the Cocoa Police Department said Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old’s victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, police said. Still, the investigation and search for the van is ongoing.

The vehicle will likely have damage to its front quarter panel, officers said. After the crash, which happened about 5:30 p.m., the driver likely took off heading westbound on State Road 524 near Interstate 95.

The incident is considered aggravated battery with a vehicle. A witness reported the van “intentionally” hitting the pedestrian.

At one point Tuesday night, westbound SR 524 was shut down.

The man was walking westbound when, according to witnesses, the minivan ran off the road and hit him. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, witnesses added.

The van’s passenger-side mirror was found at the scene.

The victim was with his girlfriend at the time, who wasn’t hurt. The couple were walking home after a trip to a nearby restaurant.
