FHP investigates fatal crash near Forest High School

OCALA, Fla. – A 25-year-old woman was killed and five others were injured in a crash involving a van carrying special needs clients outside a Marion County high school, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash was reported around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in front of Forest High School on Maricamp Road in Ocala.

Troopers said a vehicle was left into Forest High School when she traveled into westbound State Road 464 and into the path of a pickup truck. The driver of the van tried to avoid hitting the pickup truck and ran off the road before overcorrecting and overturning, ejecting several passengers from the vehicle, according to FHP.

A woman died in the crash, and the male driver was taken to a hospital, troopers said. Four others were also injured, the FHP said. Their conditions were not released.

The van was described by troopers as a transport van that was transporting special needs clients.

Westbound lanes of Maricamp Road are closed in the area.

Chrages are possible and the investigation is ongoing.
