Disney Partners With Four Seasons; Plans Include Luxury Resort, Vacation Homes

Hotel Expected To Open In 2010

Several major projects at Walt Disney World were announced Thursday: a luxury hotel going up inside park gates, a golf-course community in Bonnet Creek and a hotel-retail complex that will sit outside the entrance near the recently opened Western Beltway.

The first of Disney's announcements Thursday caters to big spenders, Local 6's Mike DeForest reported.

The Four Seasons hotel chain is opening up a luxury resort on land that is currently on the northeast side of the property, near the Osprey Ridge Golf Course Club. The hotel is expected to open in 2010.

The Four Season will also offer time-share units.

"Even more unique, they will actually be selling single-family homes there," DeForest said. "So, people with lots of money to spend will be able to own a vacation home just miles of the theme parks and entertainment."

Disney has its own government that oversees its property -- Reedy Creek Improvement District. And, typically, Disney does not want people living on their property.

"So, to build the single-family homes, they will actually have to de-annex a section of their property and give it back to Orange County," DeForest said.

The paperwork for the homes will be filed Friday, Local 6 reported.

A commercial center for "value-conscious" guests will also open just outside Disney property.

The development will include 4,000 to 5,000 hotel rooms, catering to low- and mid-budget travelers.

There will also be about 500,000 square feet of commercial space for restaurants, shopping and entertainment.

"We know we have guests who come to our property that travel that corridor that are looking for places to stay in the value category," Disney developer Matt Kelly said. "We believe that this will meet that need and further support that part of our guest who comes to Walt Disney World."
