FDOT: SunRail, High-Speed Rail To Meet
City Officials Discuss Rail Lines
The Florida Department of Transportation said Central Florida's SunRail and the high-speed rail connecting Orlando to Tampa will connect to each other when both projects are completed.
The current plans do not call for an intersection of the two rails, but FDOT spent Monday morning updating the city on new plans for both SunRail and high-speed rail and officials said they are optimistic and excited.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the impact of both programs and the 260,000 jobs that SunRail alone is expected to bring to Central Florida over the next 30 years. SunRail will cost $2.50 per ride, plus an additional $1 per county that you travel through.
City officials had numerous questions, mostly concerning SunRail crossing paths with high-speed rail.
Noranne Downs of FDOT said although she cannot put an exact location to where the lines will meet, but she believed it will definitely happen with time.
Downs also said she expects federal funds to cover the additions $1.25 billion needed for the rail projects when the growth is seen with the current funding.
