Airport Security: What You Need To Know
- Prepare in advance for major delays at security checkpoints. The Federal Aviation Administration recommends that you arrive well in advance of the usual guidelines of 1½ hours before departure on domestic flights and 2 hours before departure on international flights. Many international flights are delayed or have been canceled.- Dispose of or properly stow items that are currently restricted or banned from flights originating in the United States and the United Kingdom, including:Liquids
Other Tips:- Shoes must be removed and placed on an X-ray belt for screening.- Passengers are asked to arrive at least two hours early to allow for additional screening.- Additional wait time may be required at particularly busy airports, including Newark International; Chicago O'Hare; Atlanta Hartsfield; New York Kennedy; Los Angeles International; Washington (D.C.) Dulles; and Boston Logan.
TSA Tip:"Declutter your bag. If you let the [TSA employees] have a clear view of what's in the bag with your X-ray, you'll move right on through. That is something very easy to do as you pack your bag: leave the liquids at home, drink them, declutter your bag. And last, I'd say, enjoy your trip." - Transportation Security Administration Chief Kip Hawley.
