Unique spa features treatments for hospital patients
One of the newest spas in Central Florida is a unique retreat for hospital patients and the public.
Florida Hospital just opened its second Eden Spa location, tucked inside the hospital gift shop at Florida Hospital Altamonte.
The special services for cancer patients are what set Eden Spa apart from what most would expect at a traditional spa.
"We take care of cancer patients, we see the general public for spa services they would like. We also have a full gift shop in front," said the spa general manager, Holly Pica. "We can see patients going through breast cancer. We fit them for mastectomy bras. If they need lymphadema treatment, we have a lymphadema therapist on hand. We also have someone that can fit for compression garments."
Hair care at Eden Spa includes a private studio for wig styling.
"Knowing everything is right here (at the hospital) makes it so much easier. You're working one-on-one with a staff that really cares," Pica said.
Eden Spa is also open to the public and it's popular with hospital employees during lunch hour and after work.
"It can fit well in life. As a mom, I'm able to visit during lunch break, which is very nice," said Melissa Robinson, a hospital worker.
Spa associates say their mission is an extension of the hospital's, with a focus on details that help people feel more beautiful inside and out.
"This is like a respite within a hospital. They can have a massage or any treatment they wish. They can forget about troubles or loved one's issues. We can provide some healing and comfort for them," said Rachel White, a spa employee.
"Giving back and being a part of the healing ministry of Christ, that is definitely rewarding," said Tri, a spa cosmetologist.
For patients, some treatments may be covered by insurance or made more affordable through Eden Spa's Foundation.
