General Position Description:
The Vice President/Human Resources is responsible for all aspects of recruiting, training, employee relations, compensation and benefits for Post-Newsweek Stations (PNS). The VP/HR will serve as the company's chief human resource strategist and will work with PNS Senior Management, as well as those individuals at the Washington Post Company (TWPC) to play a key leadership role in identifying, growing, and developing PNS employees.
Recruiting - Internal and External. Work with station management to identify current employees with growth potential and find areas within the company to promote them. Liaison between stations to ensure that when job openings occur, potential internal candidates are approached and encouraged to apply. Coordinate PNS' participation in National Job Fairs (for example, NABJ) and follow up with top tier job candidates. Primary contact for the Emma Bowen Internship Program.
Training - Implement a comprehensive training program for employees including, but not limited to, Sales Manager training, new Manager training, technical training, Harassment/Sexual Harassment training. This program will include conducting on-site training as well as identifying outside training sources, as necessary.
Compensation - Liaison with station General Managers and Business Managers on overall employee compensation. Prepare Executive Compensation information/requests for the TWPC Board of Directors - Compensation Committee. Participate in industry salary surveys.
Benefits - Work with TWPC on benefits administration/audits and PeopleSoft administration. Oversee all areas of the company Pension and 401(k) Plans plus Retiree Medical Plans. Understand employment law related to benefits (HIPAA, ERISA, FMLA, etc).
Employee Relations - Develop and administer a comprehensive Employee Guide that incorporates all employee policies and procedures (including those from TWPC). Work with station management to develop a detailed New Hire orientation program. Responsible for researching and responding to employee complaints called into the Ethics Hotline. Develop and assess employee evaluation systems (review forms, 360 degree processes, etc).
Station - Provide HR support to stations including training new HR personnel, consulting for benefit, employment, FML and LTD issues, and PeopleSoft HR/payroll.
Significant working experience as a Human Resources Manager, particularly in the areas listed above. College degree in related area a plus.
Must be highly organized with excellent written and oral communications skills.
Enjoy public speaking. Proven track record of conducting employee training sessions.
Strong management and interpersonal skills.
Able to travel for station visits, TWPC visits and industry meetings/job fairs.
