Central Fla. Shelters Open For T.S. Fay

Several counties in Central Florida have opened shelters as Tropical Storm Fay approaches.

BREVARD COUNTY

The following locations will open Tuesday morning in Brevard County for residents of manufactured homes:

  • Cuyler Park Community Center, 2329 Harry T. Moore Avenue, Mims
  • Walter Butler Community Center, 4201 N. Cocoa Blvd., Cocoa (Sharpes)
  • Our Lady of Grace Church, 300 Malabar Road, Palm Bay
  • South Mainland Community Center, 3700 Allen Avenue, Micco

    The shelters will open at 7 a.m., with the exception of Our Lady of Grace, which will open at 9 a.m. No evacuation orders are anticipated, Brevard officials said.

    For manufactured home residents who plan to go to a shelter, a pet shelter will open at the Melbourne Greyhound Park, 1100 N. Wickham Road at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

    LAKE COUNTY

    The Lake County Health Department will open the following special-need shelters at 9 on Tuesday in preparation for Tropical Storm Fay.

  • Umatilla Elementary School, 401 Lake Street, Umatilla
  • Lost Lake Elementary School, 1901 Johns Lake Road, Clermont
  • Leesburg Elementary School, 2229 South St., Leesburg

    MARION COUNTY

    The Marion County Sheriff's Office will open a voluntary shelter at 12 p.m. Tuesday in the multi-purpose building located next to the jail visitation center, which is located at 700 NW 30 Ave. in Ocala.

    OSCEOLA COUNTY

    The following shelters will be open at 7 p.m. Monday in Osceola County:

  • Special Needs Barney Veal Center, 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee
  • General Pop. Harmony High School, 3601 Arthur J. Gallagher Blvd., Kissimmee
  • Kissimmee Middle School, 2410 Dyer Blvd., Kissimmee
  • Horizon Middle School, 2020 Ham Brown Road, Kissimmee

    For those with pets, Osceola County Animal Control will come out to the shelter and pick up animals.

    SEMINOLE COUNTY

    Officials in Seminole County on Tuesday decided not to open shelters.

    On Monday, they had announced that two shelters would open Tuesday in Seminole County:
