Lake Azalea Overflows, Floods Area

More Rain Forecast For Orlando Area

POSTED: Tuesday, May 26, 2009
UPDATED: 3:51 pm EDT May 26, 2009

An Orange County community was flooded Monday as a thunderstorm poured more than an inch of rain in about 10 minutes, causing Lake Azalea to overflow.

Roadways were completely underwater and cars were covered up to their windshields in Azalea Park, which is located between Mimosa and Willow drives near Orlando Executive Airport, after Monday night's torrential downpour.

Residents said the waters were about 4 feet deep Monday night but had receded to about a foot by Tuesday morning.

More rain was forecast for Central Florida as thunderstorms were expected to pop up Tuesday afternoon.
