Authorities said Eric J. Speery, of Sanford, was fishing near Greenway Boulevard and Lake Emma Road Thursday afternoon when a severe storm moved into the area. Speery moved to the gazebo at the end of the dock, where he was joined by 15-year-old David Mallard and 16-year-old Timothy Godbold.

Speery suffered the brunt of the strike when the gazebo was hit by lightning, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. Firefighters said a fishing pole was "completely scorched" indicating that it was likely a direct hit.

Mallard and Godbold were taken to Florida Hospital Altamonte. Hospital officials would not release any information on their conditions
