Record-Breaking Heat Expected Today

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Record-breaking high temperatures are expected to continue Tuesday and throughout the week in Central Florida, according to Local 6 News meteorologist Larry Mowry. "It's going to be steamy outside, hotter the usual for this time of year," Mowry said. "It's going to be a cooker."

Temperatures in Orlando will be in the low 80s Tuesday but are expected to climb into the mid-90s by the afternoon."I'm forecasting a high of 96 degrees and its going to feel like 105 degrees," Mowry said. "The high temperature for this day is 95 degrees set back in 1998."The dangerously hot weather is expected to continue in Orlando and Central Florida throughout the week."We have some record-breaking heat on the way for the rest of this week," Mowry said. We are entering a dry and warm pattern that will continue for at least the next five days."Wednesday's high is expected to be 96 degrees."Overall, the chances of rain will stay below average through Saturday," Mowry said.Monday's high of 97 degrees set a record for Orlando Monday.There is a 20 percent chance of a pop-up storm Tuesday afternoon.The highest temperature ever recorded in Orlando is 102 degrees in May of 1984.Nationally on average about 237 people die each year because of heat related illnesses, according to U.S. Natural Hazard Statistics.Watch Local 6 Weather with Tom Sorrells, Michele Cimino and Larry Mowry for your forecast.
