Cold blast grips Central Florida

Highs struggle to reach 60 degrees in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The first of three fronts expected this week has reached Central Florida, bringing cool temperatures and freeze warnings.

"Now that a cold front has cleared Central Florida, we are pinpointing low rain chances for the next several days as more dry air works in," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said. "Expect clouds to gradually clear through the day."

Orlando will struggle to see a high of 60 degrees Tuesday afternoon.

The overnight low will be 40 degrees.

"You can expect freeze warnings early Wednesday for Marion and Flagler counties as temperatures drop to near 32 degrees," Bridges said.

As cold weather moves through, many counties in Central Florida are opening cold night shelters. The follow shelters tell News 6 they are opening overnight for the cold weather:

Seminole County:

  • The Rescue Outreach Mission on West 13th Street in Sanford will open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.. Dinner is served daily at 5:30 p.m. More information: 407-321-8224.
  • The Salvation Army, 700 W. 24th Street in Sanford opens their doors when the temperature dips down to 35 degrees or below. 407-322-2642.

Brevard County:

  • Brevard Sharing Center on 113 Aurora Street in Cocoa opens its cold weather shelter when temperatures fall below 45 degrees overnight, News 6 partner Florida Today reports. 321-631-0306

"Expect high temperatures to stay cool -- upper 50s -- for most of the rest of the workweek," Bridges said.

Saturday could see a high of 70, but another blast of cold air will cool things back down by Sunday.
