Dry spell continues: Is rain on the way?

News 6 chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells breaks down rain chances

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is in the middle of its dry season and in desperate need for any rain, News 6 chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells said.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, temperatures were recorded at 88 degrees at Orlando International Airport, putting Orlando right back to where it was yesterday at the same time.

So far, Olrando has not had a day this year where temperatures hit 90 degrees.

Wednesday night the sky will be clear with a low of 66 degrees and patchy fog makes a return later in the night.

"The fog burns off early tomorrow and we will warm to a high in the upper 80s," Sorrells said.

By Friday, a weak cold front will approach the area and bring a 40 percent chance of rain.

"I am not expecting too much action from the rain chances," Sorrells said. "But we are desperate for any rain that arrives."

It will be another couple of months until the area starts to get the significant amount of rain needed to prevent flare-ups.
