Near-record heat invades Central Florida

Orlando to see high in mid-90s

ORLANDO, Fla. – If you cant' stand the heat, get out of Central Florida.

"As high pressure continues to dominate the forecast on Thursday and Friday, the forecast will be all about the heat," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said.

Temperatures will soar into the 90s from Thursday through Sunday, with the heat index in triple digits near 100 degrees.

"Expect a south breeze with sunny skies on Thursday," Bridges said. "That breeze, near 15-20 mph, will bring in plenty of warm air."

The average afternoon high for Orlando on this date is 85. It was 86 degrees Wednesday in Orlando, well shy of the record of 98 degrees set in 1908.

"We will be closer to records as we head into Friday and warm to 94," Bridges said.

The record high on Friday is 95, set in 2011.

Temperatures will remain in the low 90s from Saturday through Monday.

"After a weak front, temperatures will drop slightly into the upper 80s on Tuesday and Wednesday," he said.

There's a slight chance of rain over the weekend.

"Since January 1, Orlando has a rainfall deficit of 7.86 inches," Bridges said.
