As of 11:30 a.m., 1.11 inches of rain has fallen in Melbourne, breaking the record of .75 inches set in 1964.

The National Weather Service tweeted, "Crushed old daily precip record for Melbourne ... and the rain isn't over yet."

Southern Brevard County experienced heavy rain and winds up to 40 mph Wednesday around 3 p.m. during a significant weather advisory.

Rain chances will drop later into the evening, but the rain bands will continue to push closer to the coast.

Wednesday night the low will drop to 62 degrees and Thursday will see a high of 79 degrees with more rain.

News 6 Chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells said the weather will improve by Sunday for the Daytona 500.

"It will be sunny and cooler Sunday with a high at the International Speedway of 68," he said.

The high in Orlando will be in the low 80s for Friday and Saturday.
