Rain, storms on tap for Central Florida Saturday night

Plenty of sunshine to come Sunday afternoon

ORLANDO, Fla. – A quick line of showers passed through the area Saturday afternoon, but the big story is the rain and storms expected Saturday night.

A storm system in the Gulf of Mexico is trying to reach the Atlantic and will bring with it a stronger line of showers and thunderstorms during the night. It will race through the area from the southwest to the northeast at 30-40 mph.  These storms will be capable of producing frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, heavy downpours and possible small hail.  Impact time is expected between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m.

After the rain, lows will drop into the 60s and the chance of rain will drop to 20 percent Saturday night.

Sunday morning will begin cloudy in many areas, with clearing skies and lots of sunshine in the afternoon.  Temperatures could be in the high 70s, maybe even the 80s, in a few locations.

Nice weather is expected Presidents Day on Monday, but rain will return for Wednesday and Thursday.
