Summertime weather pattern to continue in Central Florida

News 6 pinpoints afternoon storms, rip current risks

ORLANDO, Fla. – The summertime weather pattern will continue through the week as afternoon storms and rip current risks hit Central Florida.

"A weak ridge of high pressure will keep calm winds in place combined with the heating of the day will allow for slow moving storms to develop across the inland areas," said News 6 meteorologist Candace Campos. "During the early morning hours, we could see a few light sprinkles along the coast with the threat for showers and strong storms shifting inland during the day as the sea breeze interacts."

Rain coverage will remain at 30 percent along the coast and a 50 percent chance for inland counties.

Daytime highs will hover around 90 degrees for inland neighborhoods to the upper 80s along the coast.

Heading out to the beach this week? Be aware that rip current risk will remain in the high category. Please swim by a lifeguard and never swim alone.

More of the same setup will continue for the rest of the week.

"Long range models are showing a shift in our weather pattern by late this weekend and into next week," said Campos. "A weak tropical wave is expected to develop across the Western Caribbean, which will increase tropical moisture across the sunshine state. We will continue to monitor the development of this area over upcoming days."
