Thunderstorms cause crashes, power outages

Tree limbs and power lines down in areas

MAITLAND, Fla. – Almost 5,000 people are without power Saturday night after a round of thunderstorms passed through the Central Florida area.

Duke energy reported scattered outages with the most being in Zellwood and Pine Hills with reports of at least 5,000 without power.

As the storms rolled through, drivers found themselves caught up in the downpours.

A Seminole County deputy was involved in an accident at Eastbrook Boulevard and Howell Branch Road, officials said.

Seminole County Fire Rescue officials said one person was injured in that accident and was taken to Winter Park Memorial Hospital as a result.

Orange County officials said several trees and power lines were down in the Maitland area around West Sybelia Avenue.

In Winter Park, a tree fell on a car in a parking lot of a restaurant.

There were no reports of damage to homes or injuries.
