Tropical moisture expected to drench Central Florida

Orlando area to see highs in low to mid-90s

ORLANDO, Fla. – Wet weather is expected to start flowing into Central Florida.

"More and more tropical moisture is working in from South Florida on Thursday," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said. "That will increase our rain chances for the next several days. Expect a 60 percent coverage of rain through Sunday as an area of low pressure moves in."

The system has a minimal chance of any tropical development.

"The rain deficit in Orlando since January 1 is 7.61 inches," Bridges said. "This rain will be much needed and is actually a very good thing."

The high in Orlando on Thursday will reach 93. The average high on this date is 91.

Highs will be in the low and mid-90s across Central Florida on Friday and Saturday.

"By Sunday afternoon, highs will be in the upper 80s," Bridges said. " Expect on and off rain chances, with a 50 percent coverage area for most of next week."

Pinpointing the tropics

In addition to our weak low that will only bring rain, there is another system named Harvey.

"Harvey was once a tropical storm that died over the Yucatán Peninsula, but it has regained strength in the Gulf of Mexico," Bridges said. "Now Harvey is a tropical storm, moving 7 mph to the northwest, with winds at 45 mph."

Harvey will likely move into South Texas in the next couple of days, bringing historic flooding to that region somewhere between Brownsville and Houston.

"Before Harvey is done, here could be more than 2 feet of rain adding up," Bridges said.
